VPN profiles for staff and students of the University of Siegen
Windows 10 and Windows 11
Please download the OpenVPN Connect v3 client directly from the manufacturer's homepage (https://openvpn.net/client/client-connect-vpn-for-windows/) and install it.
Then download the uni profile and (optionally) the admin profile.
For external users who require VPN access (e.g. companies that require access to a specific server system), we provide the vpn-extern profile. vpn-external (Windows) and vpn-external (for non-Windows operating systems).
After the installation, the OpenVPN client starts automatically and should appear as a small icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the Windows taskbar. If this is not the case, you can start the client via the desktop icon or the Windows start menu.
Right-click on the OpenVPN icon and select "Import file". Now navigate to the downloaded profiles, select the uni profile and confirm. OpenVPN will now import the profile and you can then connect to it.
Proceed similarly for the admin profile.

Mac OS
You can download the OpenVPN Connect app here:

Additionally, you have to download the configuration files uni and (optional) admin, as these will have to be imported at a later point. This can either be done via URL or drag-and-drop.
Linux
Install the openvpn package (for Debian or Ubuntu sudo apt-get install openvpn).
The installed version must be >=2.4 as some of the options used in the configurations are not available until 2.4.
The configuration files can be downloaded via uni and admin .

With sufficiently current distributions, it is also possible to import the config file via the network manager GUI (e.g. Debian/Ubuntu with Gnome desktop via the package network-manager-openvpn-gnome from version 1.2.10).
Android
Android users should download the OpenVPN Connect app via the Google Play Store. Additionally download the profiles uni and (optional) admin.
iOS
Download and install the OpenVPN Connect app from the App Store.
Download the profiles uni and (optional) admin via Safari and import them into the app.

When using the univpn profile:
