How to: Activate Windows Defender

Windows Defender is a built-in security program from Microsoft that protects your computer from viruses, malware, and other threats. If you want to make sure that your Windows system is optimally protected, follow these simple steps to enable Windows Defender.

Step 1: Open Windows Security

• Click the Windows icon on the taskbar to open the Start menu.
• Type "Windows Security" in the search box and select the appropriate search result.

Step 2: Navigate to "Virus and Threat Protection".

• In Windows Security, click on the "Virus and threat protection" tab.
• Here you will find an overview of your computer's current protection status.

Step 3: Enable real-time protection

• Under "Virus and threat protection," click the "Manage virus & threat protection settings" link.
• Scroll down to "Real-time protection" and make sure the switch is set to "On". This will enable Windows Defender Real-Time Protection, which will protect your computer from malware in real time.

Step 4: Run a quick scan (optional).

• If you want to be additionally sure that your system is free of malware, run a quick scan. Under "Current threat protection", click "Quick scan".
• Windows Defender will now scan your computer for possible threats.

Congratulations! Your Windows Defender is now activated and your computer is optimally protected. Make sure to always keep Real-Time Protection and Cloud-based Protection enabled to protect your PC from future threats.
